Re: City of Culture
It's a technically good picture; composition, lighting, focus and so on. And as a regular visitor to the Albert docks I would say you have captured the scene really well. Unfortunately for some reason the image just doesn't 'do it' for me. It is lacking that certain something that makes you look at a picture and say "I really like that". I guess it's a good documentary picture rather than an art one - for my eyes at least.
If I wanted to be really picky I could also point to the outward leaning buildings on either side which could perhaps benefit from some perspective correction and a black dot along the left side at the top which is probably a bird but looks like dirt! The water is really good though, and I really like the stone cobbles in the foreground and the placing of the mooring bollard.

Re: City of Culture
I'm going to be a touch picky on minor things Roger but only because the image as a whole is fine
![]() Liverpool is one of my favourite cities in the world (ok, so I'm biased havng lived in Wallasey as a kid!) and so any seen that captures a part of it is good in my book. But if I look at this scene very closely, here are the bits that would improve it, albeit in little ways but maybe adding to something significant... The black iron bollard / mooring point is nicely positioned and the cobbled stones give interest to the FG but if the camera was raised just an inch or two, the top of the bollard would be separated from the dock wall in the BG by a narrow strip of water. You'll be surprised just how much difference that can make as it allows the eye to roam fully around the picture without a 'dividing line'. Arguably the most famous building in this scene is the Royal Liver Building with the famous Liver Birds on top. Because I know them so well (and maybe only so) I find the crane counter end distracting as it cuts straight across the left Liver Bird. There is nothing you could do about it, I entirely appreciate that. To have moved enough to separate them so far away would have lost you the entire scene. As I said before, i am just being picky ![]() I agree with Larne both about the slight outward lean of the buildings to the edges, particularly on the left as it is more noticeable, and also the bird that needs cloning out. I would also clone out the crane chain hanging down over on the right hand side at the top. There you go, that's my picky moment finished, hope you don't mind me mentioning them. Sod what boringly unoriginal people say when they mention Liverpool (like we've never heard the hub caps joke before!!!!), it is deservedly the European City of Culture for 2008 and the major investment and revonation this has brought to the city is very welcome. Now then Rafa, how about celebrating by buying in some top players to make the team that bears the city's name into Premiership Champions? ![]() Ok, ok, I'll shut up ![]() Cheers, Rob
