Composition
I would like to know what you guys think of this shot. It was snowing hard that day and I blew out the whites in Photoshop to get rid off all the footprints and to make it flat.

Re: Composition
Honest opinion? It's full of emptiness
![]() You have a subject squashed in the bottom RH corner + absolutely nothing else in the frame I would be interested to know your thinking behind choosing this particular composition, because it just looks odd to me, sorry.I would however like to see the subject up closer in a much tighter framed crop

Re: Composition
Could you explain why you chose to blow out the footprints and make it look like he has hovered over to that spot without leaving a print? If there was a trail leading across to him, that would make this image really work but as it is I am entirely with charlotte, the empty space seems pointless.
Would make an excellent compliment slip to use for sending notes to friends though ![]() Cheers, Rob |

Re: Composition
I'm with them. In this case, the snow, footprints, trees, etc would have added tremenously to the feeling.
However, that is a good idea of Rob's to use it for notes. skip |

Re: Composition
Yeah, I think I would've liked the footprints in the pic also. It is kinda boring on the left empty side. Can you repost the pic with the other stuff added to the pic?

Re: Composition
Hi guy's thanks for your comments.
My thinking here was that I wanted a clean graphic image, as for the footprints there were a lot of kids on the sledding hill and the snow around him was all disturbed. |

Re: Composition
I guessed that was the reason. I agree that a single line of footprints would be ideal, but the image as shown is a better bet than a mass of marks all over the place.

Re: Composition
I personally like the photo. Getting rid of the footprints has given you a nice clean crisp image.

Re: Composition
im kinda on the fence with this one........ on the one hand i do kinda like it.....why? cos its different, and most assuredly minimalistic,,,,,, on the other the blank space i think draws the eye more than the subject.

Re: Composition
Like the idea. Could you post the one with the footprints; they are often good for leading an eye into an image...

Re: Composition
I can see where you're going with this and I like the use of empty space - as well as a very useful area for dropping in some text!

Re: Composition
I think if you applied the rule of thirds (I don't like rules) this would work just fine.
I think it's a touch wide but, I like it. |

Re: Composition
personally would of liked footprints or have cropped some off left thats our left . I think you have portrayed a feel of loneliness ,which with the large area of nothing but snow adds to the loneliness and emptiness.
