Concorde Retires Manchester
Hi there Im enjoying the forums, I have never used Photoshop before, newish member, this shot Is from my stock, taken on my old Fuji 602z, and after reading some of the forum chat, decided to have a go in Photoshop, there was a blemish In the sky, and I used the Heal tool, and added a bit of contrast and brightness, then I noticed you have a Black & white comp running, I would love to enter this into the monthly comp for B&W, I have entered for the weekly comp, Mechanical, this as got to be the best piece of mechanical engineering to date I thought, but the rules for the monthly say, " try not to use old stock" So I thought I,d ask you guys?, the story behind the shot was Concorde retired to Manchester, this guy was cleaning the Aircraft, and he snapped with his camera at me, so I returned the complement, the forums being Photography, I thought It would be a great shot for the challenge, and In future, I promise to use new stock,

Re: Concorde Retires Manchester
I reaally like the simplicity of this shot, the curve of the wing onto the fuselage works really well, very Times newspaper.

Re: Concorde Retires Manchester
Agree with Gary, only downside for me is the vast expanse of black.

Re: Concorde Retires Manchester
Old Fuji 602Z? Less of the old, please Peter! It's what I have and use with my Sigma (less so these days)
Insofar as monthly B&W competition, that's now finished, tho' you could enter this in the fortnightly - as you say, it fits the Mechanical title very well With respect to the pic, that curve is lovely and with the figure in the perfect spot for interest, tho' I agree that's a big lump of black! Good work on the sky - no sign of repair! ![]() |

Re: Concorde Retires Manchester
I like this shot a lot, and actually disagree with the others about the expanse of black in the image, it makes the eye concentrate on the figure and the sky. I feel the black makes the picture stands out, like Gary said 'very Times Newspaper'

Re: Concorde Retires Manchester
For me, the one thing that lets this down, as someone who had just one trip on the most beautiful plane in the world that was Concorde is that this picture doesn't say 'Concorde' to me at all. Perhaps if it were taken a bit further back or with a wider angle to get the full tail in it might have been stronger as it could currently be any plane.... well, ok, perhaps not a Sopwith Camel but you know what I mean
![]() Don't get me wrong, I like the image of the man standing and taking a picture back at you. I guess it's just that, as anyone who ever had the privilege of flying on this graceful Queen of the Air will tell you, once you have been mesmerised by her captivating charm, she becomes something very special to you and so powerful images of her are always memorable and welcome. I would just like to say more Concorde than Airplane. Cheers, Rob

Re: Concorde Retires Manchester
Oh, Rob, you lucky chap! The closest I got was in the canteen of an establishment close to the North runway at Heathrow. I remember well having to hold my cup of tea down while the building shook when it took off. Awsome, just awsome, and missed.
