All I've done here is to adjust the black and white points - especially the white - then boost red saturation (possibly too much!) and apply a little USM.

There's nothing wrong with the original exposure IMO - just needed a little stretching.

Yeah, I did it all within Levels but also desaturated some of the BG distractions plus lighten the shadow cast by the flash just under the eyelid/brow

Re: Critique required -Exposure

It is definitely under-exposed as it appears here Summer but I wonder if the colour profile is set correctly. It may be showing better on your computer than it is here. That would happen if the picture is set to use the Adobe RGB (1998) profile. If so, it will look fine on your computer and in print but when you upload it to the internet it will look darker. This is because of the way the web parses the colour information.

To avoid this problem, convert the picture to sRGB IEC61966 profile before uploading to the internet and this problem will be solved. In Photoshop, click on: EDIT > Convert to Profile. Then check the Aource profile. If this is Adobe then look in the Destination profile drop down menu and select sRGB.... that's all you need to do. Resave and you're ready to upload to the internet.

Of course, it is also possible you did all that and I am simply being too lazy to download and check so if that's the case I'll shut up and go and sit in the corner :o)

Cheers,
Rob
