Re: A Cross

This is not doing much for me, I'm afraid Fiona.

Tonally it seems quite flat/uninteresting. Then I crop off the bottom half + discover a whole new image with just the top half, i.e. the head of the cross. As it is now, yes you have a full range of tones within the image, but the tones are rather patchy, i.e. all the highlights are clumped together, as are the darks + the mid-tones.

I don't like the bright patches at the bottom, nor the long expanse of mid-tones down the stem of the cross, so I tried a crop, but couldn't get it to work.

I think with a much tighter crop (as described above) + a more evenly toned BG it would work.

Re: A Cross

i get what you are saying Charlotte, however in the original the sly was failry even, i had to work witht he blue and cyan sliders to bring out the tones..... which i thought added to the image comparing it to the original. Will post original if u want to play in a little while.

Re: A Cross

I agree about the sky perhaps just change it completely for a more fitting one.

On my screen I do not like the dark undersides of the arms of the cross. I cannot see any texture in them except for one patch of lichen . If that is what you see I would try to lighten them a touch.

I like the idea a lot but also think that there may have been a better angle to take the picture from. Perhaps lower so as to get a more radical view point for the picture.
