Re: The Daily Commute
Still pretty cool. NOt sure, but I might say you've gone a bit too wild with the OOF, and it doesn't need that much....take some off the bottom? Up to about the first vertical green OOF reed?

Re: The Daily Commute
Been sitting here viewing this for 5 minutes now. Really striking image.
Maybe a bit much OOF FG, but then again I think that also helps to create this shot. IMHO this is the kind that needs either all the FG, or nothing at all (focus on the hen). Personally I like it just the way it is ![]() WOW, just saw something "odd". As I scrolled back up again it just landed with about 1cm of OOF FG along with the rest of the shot. This gave it sort of a tunneling vision, and directed the eyes straight to the moorhen. That was quite interesting. |

Re: The Daily Commute
Many thanks for the comments, guys! I was aiming to give the shot some depth (hence the large amount of OOF FG). My concern on cropping out the FG was that there'd be too much emphasis on the moorhen which isn't that great in the detail stakes! I guess I was also trying to get away from the more obvious closer-in shot

Re: The Daily Commute
Mark, I think it worked. Nice to see a something a bit different from a bog standard moorhen shot, this encourages you to imagine a bit of a story behind the image.
cheers Dan |

Re: The Daily Commute
Think this does work well Mark, I've been scrolling up and down the screen and think you could lose the bottom 1.5 cm & keep all the OOF without it being too dominating.

Re: The Daily Commute
Cheers! Thanks for the comments! Appreciated!
Crop 1.5cm? And lose my aspect ratio? For some reason, I have 'settled' into always sticking to 3:2, 4:3 or square - or pano/letterbox. It's a comp'ing thing as much as anything - hate to crop into a shot, so always frame for final image (as here) |

Re: The Daily Commute
Aspect Ratio! Pah! Don't bother with that
LOL! Probably why some of my stuff looks a bit wonky

Re: The Daily Commute
Its a very good shot mark but I have to agree with the majority and say there is just a little too much OOF foreground. I know what you are saying about aspect ratios but unless you are printing and framing your shots it doesn't matter at all for web display
![]() The lighting and colours are spot on but the focus seems slightly out, the reeds/grass on the left are more sharp in front of the Moorhen than on level with it. Is that due to the processing or the focus on the shot itself? |
