An interesting and pleasing photo with lots of lines, differing angles, and a curve

The one thing that is striking me is that wall in the foreground, it just seems to bright to 'blend in' and is distracting my eye from looking at the rest, inparticularly the tower bit (They're water testing thingys aren't they?).

I take it the sun was coming from left of frame Ken ?

Yeh, that was the sun mate, At the time it looked lovely, especially with the heather on the horizon but It seems to have lost some of that colour since uploading.
Sorry Ian, posted same time. Yeh tis the sun.

I like it.

But why use such a high shutter speed and high ISO?

It looks OK to me Ken. 1/1250th at f4? I can't believe the dof you got there, even with a 28mm lens.

Nice shot!

Good question, 've actually processed the wrong one . I was taking other pics and forgot to change the aperture until after taking that shot. If it's ok I'll upload the other later. :coat:

Hehe... I wouldn't worry too much. That's a lovely shot regardless.

Nice shot!
I can't believe I processed and uploaded it without realising, but those are the settings for that pic. This also looks better than the one I took at 1/50 sec. so I'm just going to leave this as is.
Thanks.
Ken.

I love the shot.
I would say the rest of the pic apart rom the wall could do with a little more kick. ie: brightness.

Regarding the shutter speed, I am finding it a battle between aperture and shutter speed.
What I mean is, you set a lower aperture to get maximum depth of field but have to lower the shutter speed which introduces the risk of the effects of camera/lens movement. I noticed the other day that even on a tripod, because there was a breeze I could see obvious movement through the viewfinder.
I'm trialling different combinations of aperture/shutter speed settings and the wifey has made me a customised beanbag which is very light/small with a gap in the middle which you can hang over the lens. This helps to reduce lens movement due to breeze/wind. I've seen this tip in a couple of landscape books.

A possible reason for the horizon levels could be there was a lot of haze?
Thinking of a bean bag myself, read this before, more for resting the camera on though but good idea when tripod mounted, although I have never noticed this problem myself, but then I didn't notice my shutter speed and iso on this shot. until after I took it.
