I like the energy of the BW, it gives the scene even more drama. The composition works on several levels, the straight lines of man compared with those of nature. My only problem is with the extreme contrast so that a lot of detail seems to be lost or hidden. A less cluttered foreground with a lighter coloured tree/bush to bring attention away from the sky and concrete. Yet nature does not fall into these picturesque ideals.

An alternative may have been to crop the foreground.

On the whole, I would have been pleased if this was mine.

It's a dam with a doorway,,,and phone lines, which made me wonder if someone lived there. Anyway,,,,where's the water, "maybe a golden tint would make it the golden arches"
ohhh,,,I do like the fact that you are in front of the dam, with the bushes and such all around. It's a good picture because it looks like it belongs to history, ya know a picture from an old album. Keep up the good work,,,

I think that the reason that I don't reject this out of hand is the intriguing nature of the geometry. The diagonals of the clouds and trees above left and the trees lower left contrast with the several straight line of the dam and the land receding slightly to the horizon.

That is the only reason that this image holds my interest, and that is enough. People enjoy images for different reasons.

So, in this one, I don't give a hoot about the damn dam or what it means, but I rather like the spatial relationships.

ps...for all you guys and ladies who are reluctant to comment about an image because you don't know much about the technical aspects of photography, it isn't necessary to know. All you need to know is how you feel about an image. But in a way, that is more difficult to write about than are cropping and highlights.
