Re: Dark Sky
I think it is because the sky is plain with no clouds, so it looks as if you have just deleted it.
The harsh lighting is bringing some detail out where the angle of the Sun is allowing it, but the general tones in the shot are very similar. It is difficult to see where there are trees and foliage in much of the picture. Maybe a different angle to make more of the tree in the bottom RH corner would be better? |

Re: Dark Sky
Seems a little too contrasty to me, empahsised by the sky being the same shade as the shadows (which probably should be darker) so confusing things a little

Re: Dark Sky
Perhaps a very slight gradation should be used, and practically no sky is ever single colour like that... rest of shot looks good though

Re: Dark Sky
Wow, all very good points. It is an IR picture and the colors are relatively the same so I have been using an action to push over to mono. I have been using only curves for this and must admit that pulling in some detail in the rock walls of the canyon I lost sight of the over all picture,,,
I am glad no one said anything about the cloning I did to remove an out of focus branch. I will keep trying to improve and would love to make the greys an easier tone to work with. |

Re: Dark Sky
Sure,,
,,now everybody can see how over processed my pictures are, ,,that first one does look contrasty, . I was so happy with the detail on the walls I forgot that it needs to look a little real, Here's the straight from the camera, I am getting pretty good contrast for IR,(my little tricks). I think where I went wrong is that I curved this whole thing in lab and with the little bit of color left in the picture on conversion to RGB that photoshop had a fit with the unreal colors, Go ahead and play, it's free.[IMG] [/IMG]

Re: Dark Sky
Yup it's OTT, yup it's contrast is too much, yup the sky is a bit dark....
But I don't care! I like it! It's a great demonstration of texture within the shot and if this was printed larger and viewed from a bit further back I think it would be very eye-catching indeed. There is clear detail even in the shadow areas of the rocks and the whole thing just forces you to look round. So, technically right or not, it'll do for me ![]() Cheers, Rob |

Re: Dark Sky
Hi Rob,
What does OTT mean?, I too like the shadow detail in the first one, but much to contrasty for what I have learned sense putting this up,,,,also, I lost the detail in the shadows on the 2nd version, I am having fun, thanks for the comments.
