Re: For Dave (Pixalo Crew)
That's incredible detail . When you say kit lens,do you mean the 18-55mm ?

Re: For Dave (Pixalo Crew)
18-70, not that there is really a kit lens for the D200!

Re: For Dave (Pixalo Crew)
Just shows how good that lens is for the money !!! Is this a crop from the original shot then Soups, as I wouldn't have thought you could focus that close ?

Re: For Dave (Pixalo Crew)
I'd be really pleased with this from my 105mm macro, never mind an 18-70mm! Nice one!

That's about 30% of the frame. As you rightly say, the 18-70 does not focus very close, by comparison to the Canon 18-55. |

Re: For Dave (Pixalo Crew)
TBH it was the 18-70mm that made me move over from Canon 300D to the Nikon D70. It worked out cheaper to sell Canon & buy s/h Nikon outfit, than upgrade the Canon kit lens (at the time) to something with equivalent optical quality as the Nikon 18-70mm kit lens.

Re: For Dave (Pixalo Crew)
The 18-70 does perform well beyond its price point.
It is also still more popular than the 18-135 mainly as the 18-70 has a metal lens mount. "Plastic particles on my sensor!, I think not" |

Re: For Dave (Pixalo Crew)
I got the 18-70 as my first lens for my D50, and it's great. The focus distance is 29cm IIRCC, but doesn't seem too far at 70mm

Re: For Dave (Pixalo Crew)
I have this lens and it does well sometimes which surprised me. I never use it now, but I may have to put it back on the camera again once in awhile
