The Derwent Reservoir

Hope you don’t mind but I’ve been out and about trying to get the hang of this new fangled camera, I took these shots on Friday evening, the day after we had a wonderful sunset and was expecting the same but sadly nowhere near as nice. They were taken at or around the Derwent reservoir with no specific intention but to play with the camera. I very much like the results and can see such a difference compared to the camera I had been using.
The first although nothing special, seems as though I take many of these kind of shots (silhouette foregrounds) but I like them.

The second was took specifically for the sunset skipping across the water, didn’t know how it would turn out but I quite like the result. Not really knowing what I was doing I took an exposure lock on the reflection of the sun in the water. Don’t ask me why it just seemed like a good thing to do at the time.

The third, although this is a very quiet country road, amazingly I didn’t have to wait for a car to pass, very fortunate I feel as the shot would have been nothing without it.

I don't think the post in the foreground is to off putting due to the crop, i have tried removing it but find it leaves so much bare space. i do think it needs to be removed from the full original pic.
Many thanks for looking and comments appreciated.
Ken.

wow, very scenic! I really like the second one, very nice....the last one would have been nicer if the car had had its side lights on, then with a nice long shutter speed it would have left a trail...good efforts though!

I think you were right to leave the post in the foreground in that last shot - it adds depth and scale with the other posts getting smaller into the distance.

I like the second shot best. Metering for a highlight like you did there will normally result in under exposure, which it has slightly, but it's nothing that can't be remedied in PS. With difficult exposures like that try using the autobracketing on your 300D.

I liked the first silhouette shot until I scrolled down to the bench shot which simply knocks the spots off any others you have posted here. This is a wonderful shot in every sense of the word, framed perfectly; fantastic subject with a great sky, lovely warm saturated colours and the texture on the water breaks up the foreground perfectly.

Very good work Ken, your investment in the camera is paying off!!!

All of them very good. I agree, the second is the best.

second one is my favourite of those as well MIght have been interesting to try a bit of flash to bring the bench up even more though. I find myself straining to try to see it.
