Dockyards at night - Poole Quay

Something a bit different for me but took a few shots when I was down at the Quay on Wednesday night. The colours here are just how they were due to the strong tungsten lighting, the only lighting there was.

See what you think. Canon 40D, 28-70mm f2.8 L, ISO800.

Very nice indeed Rob. Love the colours, tones + composition. Even the cranes look good in this lighting

Might be tempted to clone out the bright reflection which is running out of the bottom edge of the frame (between the middle + the LHS of the image). I know, I know, it was "there", but I'd just prefer the image without it is all, and I don't believe anyone's going to count the reflections as against the number of lights

The exposure well handled, I presume any more and the lights would not have the star look.

I like the difference in light through out the shot just enough detail on cranes and the lighting on buildings is great. Overall good shot IMO. I wouldn't have picked up Charlotte's nit but now that I have read it, I agree.

this is nice,, i would have liked to see the top of hte crane but obviously that is dependant on lighting over which u had no control.
I see what Charlotte is saying........ but im not 100% sure its that important, i would have to see it without to be honest before i made up my mind.

Re: Dockyards at night - Poole Quay

Not sure if your monitor is set slightly darker than mine Fi, I can see the top of the crane without any problem. Obviously not as bright as lower down but it's definitely there.

I did look at that reflection that Charlotte is referring to and considered removing it but I felt that the count against the lights IS important and would look strange without it because actually it's the brightest light there so would be noticeable if it was missing. However, I entirely agree that I would have prefered it not to touch the bottom of the image and did consider cloning a bit of space into the bottom centimetre. Maybe I'll give that a go as it will give us a compromise between having the right number of lights and not touching the bottom of the frame.

Cheers,
Rob
