Double Bass

Besides the fact that this guy is really into his music, and had his eyes closed so that he didn't mind the flash while he was slappin. I am rationalizing the noise as atmosphere.

Now here is a story with a moral.

I nearly always carry my Panasonic Lumix LX2 in my pocket for when a photo op presents. But lately I have been unhappy with my images because they seemed more noisy than necessary, like this one. I was beginning to think that I made a tragic mistake in the purchase.

As I was thinking about this and fiddling with the cam, lo and behold, the ISO was set at 400 from a previous low light shot several weeks ago, and I hadn't reset it.

So now when I come home from a shoot, and do all those things like load the images on the puter, put protective filters back on, etc, I shall always check things like exposure compensation, ISO, manual v auto focus, etc, and return them to their default values.

Every day is a learning experience.

Thanks

Re: Double Bass

This is a very pleasing image Skip - and in this sort of shot the noise (for me) is not an issue.

However, I know that you just love a kicking, so his shirt is blown, the panelling is doing a good job of hiding the bass and his right sleeve is going out of the frame.

But in spite of this, the image works, and I have to wonder if the shirt was exposed correctly, would his face been so good? I suspect not, and lets face it (no pun intended!) the face is the most important element.

I do not think it is realistic in these situations to expect a tecnically perfect image, it is more about capturing the atmosphere and the emotion of the moment, and you have done that.

Well done

Re: Double Bass

As others have said this shot is about capturing the moment and it does that, giving a real sense of this guy's concentration and focus on the music.

Re: Double Bass

Thanks everyone. That was the intent. As I looked at the image before posting, I realized about the shirt and bg, and even lightened it some, but as you said, his face is the focal point and I didn't want to screw that up.

Dab - were you serious about the sleeve? That is the most nitpicking nitpick I have ever seen

Re: Double Bass

You've caught the moment, a man into his music! Mono treatment, noise and all, works on this.
