Dover Castle at Sunset
Took this in November in Dover (obviously!) and struggled to get the right balance. I had to go for a reasonably long exposure to get some detail into the castle but not so long as to blur the sky off more than necessary. I'm quite happy with the way this one came out, I took quite a few in the relatively short time I had before I lost the colours in the sky.
Cheers, Rob ![]() |

Re: Dover Castle at Sunset
very nice colours in that shot rob well spotted.
my only niggle " and this is minor" is that i would like to see the wall on the bottom right of the sht finish in the shot " as it carries on out of the pic" this may not have been possible i know but thats all i can comment on .. i really like this and could see it on the wall or post card just my thoughts feel fre to ignore md |

Re: Dover Castle at Sunset
I love the sky, Rob. The castle dragged my eye right through the shot with the varied levels of the walls and the clouds that seem to follow the same long sweeping patterns as the walls.

Re: Dover Castle at Sunset
Rob, could you expand a bit on your comment "I had to go for a reasonably long exposure to get some detail into the castle".
Not sure I understand. |

Re: Dover Castle at Sunset
Hi Paul,
The lighting was pretty low for this shot and I wanted to get some detail in the castle itself. With the sky as it was, it would have made the castle a lot darker so I wanted an exposure that was long enough to get some detail but not so long that the sky became too blurred. As it is I still had to PP it to get it looking as I saw it. The place looked like it was on fire, it was so red! I had never been to Dover before other than when I went on a trip with school (tells you how long ago that was!) so didn't even know Dover had such a good castle. To be there for one weekend and be treated to a sky like this was something I did not expect at all. Cheers, Rob
