Re: Downy Birch After the Rain

Hmm, doesn't do much for me, TBH. Think the leaves (which look good!) could do with something that resonates "water", or similar, in the BG. Like a lake or river. The fenceline, whilst looking OK in it's own right, doesn't really tie to the subject. Otherwise, like the leaves coming out of the corner!

Re: Downy Birch After the Rain

I agree with Markulous, nice leaves, good DoF, good technical composition but it doesn't really float my boat, there's no real interest to hold me.

cheers

Re: Downy Birch After the Rain

Interesting that it impacted me entirely differently, I looked and thought 'That's lovely' straight away. Guess it all comes down to what 'floats our boat' but technically it's done extremely well.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Downy Birch After the Rain

I like leaves and think this is a good picture. If all you wanted to do was show off the leaves with the water drops you did it well.

Re: Downy Birch After the Rain

Pretty much agree, but admire the technicalities, and like the comp, although a touch more contrast might be welcome...

Re: Downy Birch After the Rain

I like the contrast between the main leaf and the oof background, but I think it would have had more impact if it had been a single leaf. The other 'almost in focus' leaves detract somewhat but I do quite like it.

Re: Downy Birch After the Rain

I like it, like the fence in the background, I agree with Neil about the single leaf but at the same time but then not sure if it would look too lonely.

Re: Downy Birch After the Rain

Hi Paul

I haven't read the other comments yet, so mine are "virgin".

It appears to me that the fence tends to draw the viewers eye away from the leaf and out of the picture. Perhaps cropping about 1/3 off the right side would help.

Otherwise, this is quite good, sharp focus, dof, exposure, etc.

Re: Downy Birch After the Rain

You need a figure leaning on the fence in the background to balance it out.

Sharp, neutrally exposed so that's all fine, it's just a composition problem imo.
