Re: Dunfermline
Great shot Fi
The composition and exposure are spot on. I like the tones too. There appears to be a mixture of natural and artificial light, and the overall effect works to give some warmth to a subject that might usually be thought of as a cooler place. A bit like my York Minster shots. You might be under the impression that I like it. Well, I do! Well done. |

Re: Dunfermline
Another spot on Fi shot. I like the perspective and the line of the shadow contrasting with the line of the light through the window. I think that is what makes this shot. Great effect.

Re: Dunfermline
funny you should point that out Skip, this place would normally yell out for a straight down the centre Aisle shot. which i have done before here...... But on walking down the side aisles it was the way the light was giving such a direct contrast that caught my eye and it was that i was trying to capture to make it slightly different from the norm.
many thanx Fi |

Re: Dunfermline
Nothing to dislike here but I think there's possibly (tho' can't really tell as can't see to the left) a more interesting comp in getting lower, moving slightly to the right and then pointing camera up and left a little more - to make the most of that light (which comes from top left down to bottom right)

Re: Dunfermline
see what you are saying Mark and i did try to get what you are describing.. my only problem is that 900 years ago some inconsiderate sod thought to build a massive piller just to the right of where i was standing...... seriously.. lol it is there and it stopped me getting the angle right so i opted for the " i hoped" best one i could get

Re: Dunfermline
really like this one Fi , it leads you down to the little door at the end , also like the textures (tones ) in stones have you anymore of this one ,like different angles or the window on the right. Would like to see one lower ,but dont move from where you were.. Definately could have fun there with camera , are you allowed there at night , maybe with candles.

Re: Dunfermline
Fi, this looks to me like it was a tricky exposure - was the natural light thru the windows the only light available? If so, did you use flash to light the floor?
Just a great overall shot. Would be interested to know how you got such even exposure. - Paul |

Re: Dunfermline
thanx all,
the light available was for the most part natural light, there was one or two small lights but mainly on specific tombs behind me. the settings i used are : 0.8 seconds f5 iso 200 no flash as i have used flash before in here and there are too many pillers and u get loads of dark shadows,, used a tripod obviously. Sue dont think i would be allowed in here at night.... not sure i would want to be either..I know they open the doors early as the last time i was there it was about 7am on a Sunday morning but im not sure about night time. have got a few more from different places havent processed them yet. many thanx Fi |

Re: Dunfermline
It's a touch flat but excellent composition and good detail even in the darker areas so well done. But hey Fi, you love playing with that LucisArt filter and if ever there was a photo that it would work well with, this is it... so go on, what you waiting for? :o)
