EJ Portrait 1
![]() I am going out of town for a week, so I want to post a bit earlier than the 24 hour limit (edit) Note to Steve....I am really sorry about this. I thought that I had posted my last one last night, not today. Mea Culpa. I won't post tomorrow.I want to introduce you to EJ. She is very early in her modeling career. She is 6 ft tall and carries herself very well. I think that she may make it on the runway. This was a morning shoot, some inside, some out. Perhaps she is the most photogenic of the models I have photographed. I didn't do much ps'ing (a new verb?), just basic exposure, color correction, and shadows in RAW and a bit of levels, plus a bit of a burn to the highlights on her face. Of all the shots, I like the headshots the best. I am waiting to learn from you guys about portraiture! skip Last edited by skipper954; 09-11-2006 at 22:58. |

Re: EJ Portrait 1
this is cracking, what a beautiful girl she is ( i hate her already) lol j/k.....
I am not honestly sure if i like the background being so burnt out, BUt i think you get away with it because of the big contrast between that and her dark hair. WHERE do u get the models skip and can u ask them to pop over here for a holiday !lolol Fi |

Re: EJ Portrait 1
Thanks, Fi. I thought that I might get by with the background just because of the contrast.
I get models from a modeling website...but I will not pay for models, so to get a model to model as a trade for print or cd is not at all easy. One photographer I know just walks up to people in the supermarket, etc, gives them his card and chats them up to see if they want to model. Apparently he has great sucess (sigh). I just can't bring myself to do that. skip |

Re: EJ Portrait 1
She is a looker, however, I think it looks too blown out in the upper left, my eye is having trouble dealing with the contrast.

Re: EJ Portrait 1
Wow Skip I really think you have a winner here.
It's a naturally stunning shot. The background for me is just fine I'm looking more right at the model, for me the background being high in contrast directs the eye back to the models face. Skip the only faults I can find with this and perhaps it's just me is that the high lights from the sun has caught and exaggerated ever so slightly her facial hair (I am sure this could be fixed with some PS cosmetic surgery). Also watch out for the stray hairs across her chest, this is just miner details and something I myself still struggling to pick up, even when I'm modelling, I really rely on the photographer to notice these details. What a beautiful model. All in all a fantastic shot. Well done... Was Ej happy with this one? I'd love to see more of the shots you did... Cheers Bella |

Re: EJ Portrait 1
Thank you for your comments, all. Bella....I have learned from this site that I have to pay attention to the details, as you said. And as we were shooting, I did not notice the facial hair. I will investigate.
I have no clue if she was happy with the shots. I only emailed her once since, and she didn't say. I routinely give a model 3 weeks to tell me if there are shots that she loves and I can use, or hates and doesn't want put out to the public. The model release states that if they don't respond in 3 weeks, then I can use any image in any manner. Of course, I don't want to put out any image that puts the model in a bad light, but I have found that the model (or the subject of the photograph whether professional or not) is her own worst critic. I took swimming pool shots and shots in a gym, along with some inside shots, but the ones that worked the best were the portraits. Too bad, too, because I was really trying to emphasize her legs and height. skip |

Re: EJ Portrait 1
I do that a lot as well. see a pretty girl in a bar or club etc, give em a business card explain that you are a freelance photographer and if they ever fancy doing any modeling to give you a call to discuss. I guess im fairly lucky though as Sheffield has a massive influx of students every year and to be honest some of them are gorgeous.

Re: EJ Portrait 1
Skip, I wish I could put my finger on why this shot doesn't really do it for me. I think one reason is that I find that lock of hair falling over her forehead distracting as it seems to have separated itself from the rest of her hair!! The highlights on her face don't help either. But she has such stunning features I just think that there is a much more dramatic portrait waiting to happen there somewhere.

Re: EJ Portrait 1
OK, Angela. I am going to see if I can find it
![]() Well, I looked at all my shots and didn't find one that really floated my boat in terms of a headshot. I tried cloning the hair to fill in the space, but obviously that didn't work well. Didn't look natural. Guess I needed a hairdresser to do that. There are a few other really nice shots that I shall post later, though. Thanks, Angela. skip Last edited by skipper954; 12-11-2006 at 04:03. |
