Experimenting
While out in Edinburgh yesterday i had a little experiment with DoF........ i do kinda like the effect or am i being biased just cos its my image! lol?

Nice idea and composition, but I think that these sort of shots work best when the FG is in sharp focus and the blurring is from the mid to BG.
This picture has a band of sharp focus with nothing of interest in it, and the FG and BF OOF. This might have worked if the band of sharp focus had something for the eye to dwell on - maybe someone looking at the river or walking along the path. |

gotcha! i do have another one with the focus sharp at the front, as i said i was experimenting so have different ones with different focus....... this one jumped out at me god knows what reason lol

I agree entirely with Graham, if you do a mid-ground focus with the rest out of focus, there needs to be something of focal interest in the sharp area. That aside, I like the composition and the sharpness giving the wooden lead in line some texture works nicely.
Definitely an interesting shot, not perfect but still good. Cheers, Rob |
