Eye of the butterfly
This is an extreme close-up of the eye of a peaocock butterfly. It was taken at the butterfly house at Longleat where the butterfly was sitting happily on a half of an aroange and didn't seem to care about me at all. I got up close and personal and used a Canon ringflash for lighting.
The detail is not evident here but in the HR version, you can see the honeycomb lens over the eye. I am intrigued by that eye, looks like it has several irises and all a weird shape but I am no lepidopterist so prhaps you can tell me about it. Anyway, enjoy looking.... but try not to have nightmares! Cheers, Rob

Re: Eye of the butterfly
Nice bit of detail there.
Whilst appreciating it's on an orange, there does appear to be an orangey cast to butterfly - or was it orange too? And your sensor needs a clean!

![]() And yes, way back when I took this about a year ago my sensor needed a clean... but then as this was about photo numbr 600 that day and we had been taking photos throughout the safari park necessitating frequent lens changes, I guess that was inevitable. I generally inspect my sensor once a month but if I have been out on heavy shoots I do it more frequently and always before a paid shoot for obvious reasons. I am out on a shoot on Brownsea Island tomorrow so better go and clea that sensor now, just in case Cheers, Rob |
