Eye on you!

Hi all,

Just found this forum from a thread on a different forum and thought it looked an interesting place to waste some time.

I recently invested in a new macro lens for my dSLR and during some experimentation taking pictures of my GF posing cat I got this one I particulary liked. I've posted this on some other forums and thought I'd share it with you for some feedback.

Be gentle..

Camera: Nikon D50
Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX APO HSM Macro Lens
Shot in RAW and post processed in PSCS2

Regards

Paul C

I like it - nice and striking. My only criticism would be that it perhaps could have been taken with a slightly smaller aperture to get more of the detail around the eye in focus.

Welcome to the forums by the way :-)

Hi Psmeg

welcome to the forums!

A lovely shot, with great clarity, but ive had to break the link as the image is outside the forum rules for both image and file size, if you resize down to 800x and 160kb then i will reinstate the link.

I hope this hasnt soured your first post here, and i hope we see some more of your pictures!

Thanks for the feedback guys..

We use a epson 9600 large format printer as part of my business and the image comes out very nicely on both canvas and premium lustre when enlarged.

Yep, very nice and I'd agree with the comment about the eye. A tiny bit of selective USM brings it out even more, picky though

Nice shot. I really like these selective colour on B&W shots. I've yet to find any of mine to try it with though. Personaly I think the DoF is Fine BTW.

Thanks again guys for the additional comments; they are much appreciated. I'm just starting to get used to working with a dSLR over a fixed lens prosumer camera and all these lenses make for a lot more fun, and a lot more learning.

I can see what you mean about the DOF, but from a personal viewpoint it achieved what I wanted it to do: focus attention on the eye. However, with a little bit more playing the comments about increased sharpness/focus around the eye may well improve the image considerably.
