Re: Ferrari P4...

TIM - if you are asking here it is
1. you should do something with sky - it's overexposed. best way is to use layer in photoshop and correct only sky - then join both layers.
2. grass should be green, it's not really. it's kind of yellow-green now.
3. main object - car - is fine in my opinion, but i would experiment more with composition, more form the front or camera could be a little bit higher so you could see front window. but it's just me, i like experimenting. generally composition if very good in this photo (relation ground to sky)
4. lot's of details here so it's very good

Re: Ferrari P4...

I believe the sky creates effect, it was done intentionally... Originally I took two separate exposures (one for the car, and one for the sky) which i was planning to stitch together (work far better than adjusting a blown out image in PS), but I far prefer this "mid" point. This is a late afternoon shot, the very warm light is why you see the grass as yellow-green, it is the accurate colour though. I did take shots from a variety of angles, and as is normally the case with sports cars, I found the "level" shot the most effective. Thanks for the opinion and thoughts.

Re: Ferrari P4...

i should say from the beggining that it's great photo anyway
you are right about grass, but if you are looking for perfection i would suggest to make this sky blue - it'll be stunning. personally i don't like this effect you have there now. remember that you are not doing artistic photo here, it's more documentary, more realistic it is = better it is.
second ago i took EVO magazine - looking for car photos. and your shot is better then many from EVO (no sharpness, dust on the lens ect).

Re: Ferrari P4...

I like the shot as is TIM. i think the stark background allows the lines of the car to show off a bit.

Re: Ferrari P4...

I agree and disagree with Marcin.

The sky I agree, I am not keen on the over-exposed look, however deliberate. It is too strong and pulls my eye away from the subject.

As for the grass, since when has grass only been green? It shows as a huge range of colours depending on loads of factors: the time of day (as here giving a yellow tinge), the type of grass (some grass is more blue than green!), the age of the grass, the time of year, whether it is wet or dry, the type of soil, the other flora growing within the grass.... the list goes on and on.

I have seen many a shot ruined by people over-saturating the grass to make it more green. Here the red of the car is prominent as red always proceeds (while blue recedes) due to its position in the colour spectrum and with green being closer to blue, the red is allowed to push forward nicely. If you strengthen the green it will simply look unnatural in my opinion. The grass is nothing more than the BG, le the subject stand out and don't mess

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Ferrari P4...

Tim, I like this shot. I would normally want more detail in sky but having said that I when I first saw the shot downloaded on my monitor my first thought was cool shot.
