Fig Leaf
What are the views on this one. Pic is of a fig leaf taken in a studio type environment, minimal processing (just levls/curves and maybe a bit of cloning). The light i used was a mini-mag light, (i like torch light as a subtle lighting effect, because you can paint in the detail and shading, though it can be a bit hit and miss).

Re: Fig Leaf
Technically, it has been handled nicely, it just feels a tad lost in all that blackness. I would like to have seen the form of the main leaf rather than a side shot of it which hides much of its form.
I like the approach you have taken though so would like to see more of your work :o) |

Re: Fig Leaf
Thanks for that, i see what you mean about more of the main leaf. I didn't really think about the fact that fig leaves are known for their shape and here i have totally hidden the shape of the leaf.
I have a shot of a train in my gallery which has been lit by torch too, though this is a lot less subtle than here! |

Re: Fig Leaf
I would agree with Rob's comments but would like to add that the technique you have used for the illumination of the subject has many possibilities though and as you obviously have a creative side to your photography I would recommend experimenting with it on different subjects and in different ways. Some of the results may not work but you will certainly learn a little from each new shot and could well develop your own style.

Re: Fig Leaf
An interesting technique. I really should make the effort to set up some sort of studio area - it's something I'm hopeless at: still life type shots.
Agree with above comments - way too much black which overwhelms the subject. And, after seeing Rob's comment re. the leaf, realise what it was about the subject that didn't sit easily with me! ![]() Be very interesting to see more shots! |
