Re: Figure study
I quite like the first one Sp, but I admit to being no expert on the nude form so I might be talking nonsense about now! Maybe Dave will like the other two as they are mono and that's his thing! I feel the skintones are smoothy and more pleasing on the eye in the coloured version here.
I am not so keen on the second as the ribcage seems a lot more prominent, something I don't find very attractive. In the third one I think the contrast is a bit harsh, the right arm looks a bit masculine and... how should I say this?... I think just a little more of the private area is revealed than feels right for me. As i said, I don't do this sort of picture and am not so clear on what might be deemed lovely or acceptable so feel free to ignore me. Just my view. Cheers, Rob

Re: Figure study
Lord knows, I am not an expert either, but I have looked at hundreds if not thousands of nude photographs. Terrible job, but someone has to do it.
In the first image, I don't like the skin folds/wrinkles at the top of her right thigh and her axilla (armpit). Also her right thigh seems a bit mottled. ? noise? And her bellybutton is not pretty. Even though it is hers, perhaps you should modify it. I like the play of light, and the pose is a pretty good one. But maybe the tone is too cool. Perhaps a bit warmer? Or is this what you were shooting for? The second image is good, but the arm leading out of the frame tends to draw the viewers eye out of the frame as well. Also, there is some ugly looking hair under her ear. The third image is stricking, very artistic. I like the contrast of the muscular arm and large vein to the obvious female parts. Perhaps, though, it would have been more interesting if the light came from the left, beyond her head, than from the right. The stong light from the right tends to emphasize her genitalia rather than her figure. But if you are like me, and if people like steve and bagman and dabs and rob comment more, you will learn a ton. So lets see some of your other efforts. spxxxx - it is so easy to critique an image and so difficult to create one. I would play around with all of your images to see if you can make something a bit different, something to make the viewer stop and look longer, (more noise, more contrast, different cropping, different lighting and finally go out and shoot different poses - really get to know your model if you already don't - spend time with her just talking. You might find that your images improve as you shoot and you both get more comfortable with each other). You might create something that has never been seen before. Or at least try. skip Last edited by skipper954; 28-10-2006 at 04:28. |

Re: Figure study
Skip
Good points - I am always looking for input to learn more in this field The space I have is very limited which although hampers in some ways makes you think more in others - hence the third shot which was the only pose we could think of to fit the whole body in ![]() I'll keep trying and posting...................
