Re: Final Resting Place
I like the dramatic effect of the monochrome. It lends itself to the subject. The sky adds to the drama.
Personnally, I would have included more of the grave-yard to put the tomb into context but it works well as it is. We don't need to have the same tastes in everything. Did you think of overlaying a small thistle? There was a girl in a red coat in Shindler's list that made such an impact since it was the only colour in the whole film. Well done, Geoff TWO |

Re: Final Resting Place
hmmmmmmmm thistle............ now theres a thought. thanx Geoff......... actually this is not in a grave yard, but is actually inside the remains of the abbey itself, were the abbey still entire ( its basically mostly foundation apart form the bell tower) this would be just infront of the high alter... its surrounded now by a high 6 foot fence..... ( thank goodness for photoshop) and it was a fence with big sharp things on top which even i drew the line at climbing over! lol

HiFi
I am suprised that you didn't scamper (?) over that fence. Where is your sense of adventure? The impact of this image is that it is really James III and his wife's resting place. The plaque tells the story. I, too, would have liked a slightly longer view, but then you would have had to photoshop out more fence. skip |

Re: Final Resting Place
Agreed with the others really. It's historically a good picture as it records this important resting place but other than the sky which gives it a bit of atmosphere it is mainly what we tend to call a reportage shot. The flat plane tends to lack any dynamism so we are just left to have a read of the text (not pin sharp but probably due to compression) but at least it has a small diagonal at the bottom edge. Overall a decent shot but not much abiding interest (as a picture, not a historian!).
Cheers, Rob |
