Re: First attempt at Colorizing
The photo looks fantastic!
You definitely picked the perfect shade of pink; it complements the mono very, very well! Edit: On second look, theres a small bit of whiteness near the bottom, just to the right of the torso. Maybe you could burn that out? ![]() |

Re: First attempt at Colorizing
I agree, this effect has come out really nicely
Very well done ![]() Re: "removed the colour then did the rest", would you like to share with us what else you did? The contrast could do with a slight bump up IMO, as the little darling's skin is very close to the tone of the background, + because the BG is quite light-toned, it's a little distracting + draws the eye away from the subject. What do you think about darkening the BG + blurring it a bit more, to close the focus in on the little girl? The copyright looks ok. I can't read it (too small at this res) but the placement looks ok to me. I agree the bit of white at the bottom RH edge of her blouse needs fixing, but overall a very pleasing image!

Re: First attempt at Colorizing
This has worked really nicely. It doesn't have the full dynakmic range but in this case it doesn't matter, the softness of the contrast has added to the lovely relaxed portrait of this little girl.
Good work, Rob |

Re: First attempt at Colorizing
I really like this shot... Agree with Rob that not having a full range of tones adds to the shot rather than detracts. Any more contrast would detract from that lovely pastel pink. Would love to know how you did it!!!

Here, I blurred the background by selecting it and then clicking the blur button. Then I tried to sharpen it a bit more. I tried to figure out how to darken the background some, but I don't know how. I also changed the copyright at the bottom, but how do I make it not so blurry? What pixels should I use? I think that may be my problem. I also tried to fix her shirt at the bottom, but I think it still looks kinda funny. ![]() |

Re: First attempt at Colorizing
Did some work on your pic, but couldn't finish it in time to post - my brain hurts now
Will upload it to show you tomorrow.I saw why your copyright notice is blurred, it's because your "border" is in fact part of the image + as such is affected by any editing, in this case the blurring you did also blurred your copyright notice To make a proper border you need to increase the canvass size, by about 20 pixels I guess, + make that extended part the colour white. To fix the stray bit of white, you have to zoom in to about 200% + use a small brush to clone along the edge. What I was trying to do was use levels to increase the contrast a bit, but also give it a soft focus look as well, to keep that lovely soft look. To darken the BG (I'm reconsidering my view on this idea) use the burn tool over the background, which you could select to avoid stray bits going onto the little girl. Have a go yourself, if you like the ideas I've outlined or, as I say, I'll upload once I've had a chance to finish what I was trying to do ![]() |

Re: First attempt at Colorizing
its a lovely image and u have done really well with the selective colouring. The copyright i always have to remind myself to move to the background layer ( the one where u have extended your canvas) that way it wont take any of the attributes from the image layer.
