First attempt at a sky

First things first, I am very much a beginner when it comes to this. It's the first shot of this type that I've taken that I thought actually looked alright.

The one thing that definitely doesn't look right to me is the foreground is way too dark/takes up too much room, could definitely work on the composition there. I'm just generally after a bit of advice on what could be better and perhaps some suggestions for post-processing.

Re: First attempt at a sky

I think you have summed it all up pretty well Benj so not much i can add. Yes, there is too much FG as there is no detail in it at all (at least as displayed here). There isn't much cropping up above the ground line to make an interesting silhouette from, just a couple of bits at the ends and the single bit of branch in the middle.

The sky is lovely though slightly burnt out, almost impossible to avoid without a filter when looking straight towards the sun as here. I think I would crop the bottom until you have just 1 centimetre of solid ground line. Another time think about finding something in the FG that might make an interesting silhouette against that lovely sky and you'll be onto a winner. You might need to get down low to find something but there is nearly always something there if you look hard enough

Well done on your first attempt at a surprisingly difficult subject. You've done well

Cheers,

Rob
