Re: first bird shot

Hi Mick, + welcome to pixalo

That's a super shot for your first post You've got great focus, depth of field, colour + exposure here, so very well done! Only quibble I have is that the background is quite distracting, especially with a blummin great shadow falling directly behind the bird, and I would've preferred to see more of the foreground stones than the blurred patchy grass at the top of the frame. Still, a lovely shot, + you got the bird nice + sharp, which is a great start. Look forward to seeing more

Re: first bird shot

Good focus, the bird's lovely and sharp. I like the light on the bird as well. The background's nicely blurred and the shadow doesn't bother me too much. Birds are not the easiest subjects and this is a great shot.

cheers

Re: first bird shot

lovely shot! do agree perhaps that more of the stones and less of the grass would benefit but the the shadow doesnt bother me that much.

Re: first bird shot

fantastic shot, focus is spot on . The only thing i would do would be crop in bit more . I tend to disagree with charlotte (sorry charlote) regarding shadow , as i think it gives it a natural feel to image , especially with him sitting on timber. BG has nice soft out of focus as in , not be a distraction to me ,however would crop more off top as i think there is too much bg .Really nice sharp image

Re: first bird shot

Shooting birds can be frustrating - they move so quickly its tough to "capture" them in focus with the right background, the correct depth of field and proper lighting. That said wildlife photography is so enticing - the colors, the action, the thrill of the "hunt". Those that are good at it are rewarded with photos that everyone admires. So, keep at it and keep sharing - we are all eager to see what you produce.

Re: first bird shot

BTW - Charlotte and Fi referred to what they see in the foreground as "stones".... Is that what you call bird seed in England? Just curious.....

Re: first bird shot

I have to say I wouldn't change a whole lot in this picture, I think it holds together nicely and the bird is captured very well. Lovely composition and no real probs with the shadow as it sets the BG darker and makes the bird stand out. If the shadow was in the FG then it would certainly be a prob but as is I am fine with it.

Great first bird post Nightfly, well done

Cheers,
Rob
