Hi Fi, i love this, the dept of field is great and the black background make it stand out more, well done. David

Re: first critique from the 400d
It's a good shot Fiona but don't necessarily put it down to the 400D. If you used Auto for this then you would probably have got an equally good result from your Fuji. If you have used Manual, AV or TV then put it down to your ability to get the results from the camera

Re: first critique from the 400d
thanx!!
i am actually quite chuffed with myself that i havent used auto on the canon. i never used it on the fuji so i saw no reason to even contemplate using it on the canon..... so it was shot on Av. Fi |

AV is so close to manual that I use it to meter with and then set my exposure in manual, what lens did you use as you might have gotten away with more flowers and less black. But we all know you love black, it is very cool,,,have fun..

Re: first critique from the 400d
Focus and exposure is spot-on for the water drops and the DOF perfect for the two flowers and to ensure the other flowers stay in the BG.
I might've preferred the two to be more isolated against that black but appreciate that might not've been possible |

It's certainly sharp enough and I like the idea you have just one fully dark corner. I notice it is in an untagged RGB format. If you save it a an sRGB it will have more contrast in most browsers and look a bit better as this is just a touch on the flat side.

I always use the "Save for Web" function. Just check the block for icc profile and it keeps it for you otherwise it will strip it to untagged RGB. |

Re: first critique from the 400d
Hi Fi
First of all, you got a new cam? How cool. But as you well know, it is the eye behind the viewfinder that makes the pic. Good job. I often use either shutter or aperture priority and then go to manual to change the other variable depending on the type of shot. That is the easy way out. I really like your dof here, but the image might have been better with a more important contrasting subject to focus on. skip |
