Seeing as I've seen some HDR shots I thought I would give it a go. Only problem is it looks a bit like a painting to me. Any advice welcome. I used Photomatix with a dark, medium & light version of RAW shot (thats the way I read to do it anyway

Re: First go at HDR. HELP
I'm no expert in this, but it looks like you have just taken the generated HDR. If you look under the "generate HDR" option you should see tone mapping . Go in there & have play with the sliders to see what effect you can get.
Hope that helps |

Re: First go at HDR. HELP
Thanks for that Dave. I didn't realise you had to play with Tone Mapping. Just had a play & boy can you change the shot a lot here. Eventually ended up with 100% colour, 24% strength & dropped Dynamic range by 5% to get this effect :-
![]() I've place this image in a private sub album under my name to stop filling the general gallery with my shots. Can you see the shot OK? & is that the best way to store shots for testing purposes ? |

Re: First go at HDR. HELP
Thats a great improvement Mick & it looks quite natural. It's so easy to go OTT.

Re: First go at HDR. HELP
Had a play with the free pixamatic but how do you save the finished version that opens in photoshop? (Max sys X)
It really worked on the trunk of the old tree for you. |

Re: First go at HDR. HELP
In Photomatix you can go the HDRI>ToneMapping route or else just combine images which IMO is sometimes the best way. With ToneMapping it can be better to alter the local contrast enhancement from strong to medium, and also to alter the luminance so it doesn't try to make all the shadows mid-grey!
