Re: First go at Photoshop

It's a well done piece of 'shoppery
Lots of people find selective colour boring or 'lame', but I think it can work. I'm just wondering why you chose the pot to single out.
Also, often I find it better to really-desaturate-but-not-completely the BG, if you know what I mean

Re: First go at Photoshop

Technically good, but all the attention is now drawn to the blue pot rather than the cute kid. If this were a blue pot advert it would work but I think there's a good shot of a nice child there that's being pushed into the background.

cheers

Dan

Re: First go at Photoshop

Yup, I'm with them, the PS work is fine, well done on producing what you intended properly

Although I think the subject is wrong simply because there is no logical reason for us to be interested in the blue cup, the techniques you have learnt from doing this will build your confidence to try it again with something a bit more striking. Your child is far too cute to be 2nd fiddle in the picture

Cheers,
Rob

Re: First go at Photoshop

The others have given the necessary praise for a good first effort - so now I'll do the Simon Cowell (this is critique section) and say that the edges around the cup are not great. I can see blue `spilled over' onto the shirt which suggests you have painted the colour on the cup (was it a white cup?) and I can see gray on the cup where you missed with the colour.

If you painted the colour on did you use a pen tablet? Much better than a mouse for all painting methods. Did you make a selection of the cup first to protect the shirt from the colour? If not, that would help (I realise you may not have acquired these skills yet) especially if you don't have a tablet.

Of course, this may have been a blue cup in a colour original in which case you may have used a masked layer to isolate the cup. If so, my comments hold true for creating the mask. If you used a masked layer then it is a simple task to correct these edges.

If you painted the colour on I suggest you paint on a blank new layer set to 'Color' blend mode and then use a mask to create the shape; gives you total control.

If I am talking about things you haven't acquired experience of yet I'm sure others will fill in any gaps for you.

Les

PS Not critical just honestly helpful!

Re: First go at Photoshop

You must have great eyesight to see all that Simon

Good feedback though and some useful tips I've learnt from your comment though. As to the picture I will say the colour popping looked good to me, but agree with others as to the effect on the subject.
