First IR

All these IR pics has inspired me to turn my camera into an infrared camera - easily done as I just remove the dustscreen (removable anyway to clean sensor) which doubles as an IR filter (filtering OUT IR which, of course, I now want!).

So here's my first IR image. It actually comes out pink all over (but seeing as IR is invisible to us, strictly speaking it has no colour), so I just did some altering of the levels to arrive at this

Not too sure about the result here, to be honest, but thought I'd upload it anyway!

Edit: meant to add that flowers are actually white

Does anyone recall where the focus comes in relation to visible light focussing? It used to be marked on the lenses but modernity has meant that we're lucky to get visible light focus marks, never mind IR! Is it focussing closer or further away?

Re: First IR

Sensors have a hot mirrow, cut filter, to block infrared and let in the rest of the light in, "you can remove this filter with out taking your camera apart? Some are even bonded to the sensor. I didn't think they made those kind of camera's anymore. anyway, the red dots are gonel, except in older lenses. The space left because your filter is removed throws your focus off, and even though my camera was calibrated and works perfect with some lenses, When manual focusing I tend to think that it is focusing forward of the so called normal point the camera would choose,,and by looking at the different pic's I have. As far as I know you still need an normal light blocking filter to see only the infrared. I only know so much anyway,,,interesting

Re: First IR

Interesting result, but were you using a Hoya R72 filter? If not, you're getting the full visible spectrum plus IR which tends to turn things pink. For IR shots you need to filter out everything except IR. But maybe you did!

Re: First IR

Doh! No filter used, so I'm getting the full visible spectrum as well!
Of course! Removing the dustshield only lets in more IR! Thanks!
