First Mono conversion
Here is my first attempt at converting to mono.
Shot taken in shade on an otherwise very bright day about 1pm. As this is my first mono, I'm looking forward to your comments and suggestions. Thanks ![]() |

Re: First Mono conversion
love the composition of this....... I feel it could do with more of a kick tho.......... have a play with levels and curves.
I would consider running the stone work and door thru lucis art to bring out the detail and texture...... but then thats just me! ![]() Great start tho u are definately on the right track. fi |

Re: First Mono conversion
I like this, love the door and the plate at the bottom which gets kicked to open......
Fi beat me to it but all I done was a contrast USM @ 25-60-0 ![]() Ken. |

Re: First Mono conversion
I too like the comp - and think Ken's pimp hits the spot! Think it needed a little more contrast but Fi's is a contrast too far (with too much black)

Re: First Mono conversion
I know Dave it is, I just wanted to bring a tiny teenie bit more attention directly to the door, cos the wood has lovely tones that can be brought out.

![]() Thanks Paul, I didn't do anything special. I lassoo'd the door, and did 'invert selection' to get the rest of the stuff and not the door. Then, and this is something I never do, I used brightness / contrast, to adjust the brightness (making it lighter), whilst increasing the contrast a little to stop it looking flat, just lifting the details slightly. Then for the door, I sort of re-converted it, with another layer, and darkened it with curves (ie, didn't lose detail, but made it slightly darker), and did a weeny bit of USM. Hope that helps, but you could probably have got just as good a result as my pimp with OptikVerve Labs plugin, which I recommend to everyone, it's so good. Takes away some of the manual aspect, but still ![]()

Re: First Mono conversion
I have spent a while looking over all these pictures. And I'm certainly not an expert on playing with a photo to make it look better. Example: bringing out certain parts of a photo, etc. But I have to say that I like the first one nichpr posted.
