thanks...the top of the stone is actually a cross that the image of jesus came from....it's a different picture...it's pretty tall and i couldn't get the cross and the close up of the statues so i decided to combine them

Re: First one in a while...cemetary

Dehno, can I please ask what you meant when you said 'I got the idea for this....'? What idea do you mean? The idea to take a photo of the statues of the idea to trey and convey a specific message in the photo?

If it is the former then yes, I agree it is a good set of statues to take a picture of and the focusing and lighting that you used is good. If you had something further that you wanted to convey in the image then I might need some help in knowing what that is.

I don't think the sideways cross on the left nor the parts of tombstones on the right add anything to the picture so I would crop those out so our focus is on the statues and the stone cross, though of course we don't know it is a cross per se, only because you told us.

I have had a little play, cropping the sides out and just adjusting the contrast on the stone so that the figure of Christ on the cross is more evident. This draws that part of the picture into the whole image and, I feel, makes it the central part of the picture so that the entirety has a story to tell so to speak.

You are of course entirely free to disagree, I am just putting my little pimp here for you to see what i mean.

Cheers,
Rob

Rob, I agree with what you said about the tombstones, and believe cropping them out put more focus on the subject....but there's just something about the cross on the left i like....can't quite put my finger on it....

The idea i got was to take the Jesus image from a different picture in the set and add it to the stone in this one.

After seeing it this way i do like it better

Hmm, the colours in this distrurb me a bit but I can't think of much else to say about it other than I find it boring.(I know that that's not very constructive) The white statues are so bright and clean looking they almost look as if they are made of plastic.

Re: First one in a while...cemetary

I guess you like the cross on the left for the same reasons I don't Dehno, and that is one of the great things about pictures For me, I don't like ornamental crosses as they disguise what the real cross is all about. Whether you have any kind of religious faith or not, the cross was a horrendous means of giving someone the death sentence, utilising a very slow and painful death. So for me the cross is an ugly thing, a barbaric means of torture far worse than hanging, behading, gas chambers and so on. So the tombstone depicting an ornamental, almost 'beautiful' notion of the cross does not symbolise the suffering and death of Jesus in the way it is supposed to.

I guess that's why I felt the rough-hewn stone cross with a simple depiction of Jesus on the cross speaks more to me. It also connects better with the look of sorrow and grief on the face of the two Marys and so brings a sort of completeness to the image that I don't feel is added to by the other cross at the side.

Only my opinion of course, and as a Christian, my viewpoint is naturally affected by that element of things.

Cheers,
Rob
