[Moscovite]

Well, here's one we took in Hawaii. We had our own beach to play on !!! I thought I looked pretty good in this one, even though Greg took it with a crappy camera What do you all think? Critique welcome

I happen to like it. It is good because it is natural and relaxed. I also like the composition, it is altogether a pleasure to look at. The only crit I have is that your feet would have helped to make it even better.

i have to say its an ok pic but more of a snap than anything. it doesnt really look as if much thought has been given to the pose, lighting etc....... but hey your braver than I would be beach to myself or not! lol

Thanks for the crit! The point was to shoot it spontaneously and do an Aphrodite-like pose. We have a few more we'll be posting, since we're limited to one a day we'll have to wait. Also, we don't want to make it confusing, we both are under this screen name.

I wonder Moscovite whether it might be worth posting a few under the Shared thread rather than the Critique thread. I say that because on this thread people tend to go for detail and look carefully at the photographic elements of the picture. This is a pleasant enough capture but if we were to look at it from a technical viewpoint, it would fall short in a number of areas. You said yourself that this isn't a composed, set up shot, more of a spontaneous grab shot and as such it is good enough.

If we went into detail we would talk about things like:

The lighting: the face is all in shadow because of the arms while the torso is brightly lit. Whether nude/semi-nude or clothed, I still prefer to be drawn first and foremost to the face and then to admire the shapely form that has been composed.The eye is drawn to the brightest points in a shot and in this case it means we first see the foamy white waves, then the torso and finally move up to the face.

The composition: the pose is as you wanted though i would have got her to stand where her feet could be seen, not cropped off by the rock. Also, she is standing dead centre of the picture which is far less dynamic than on one of the thirds. She is acting as a dividing line, splitting the picture in half.

Nothing wrong with the subject, a pretty young lady for sure. Just that in this thread we tend to look more at the picture as a whole.

By the way, if you want to show a few, you can do that on the Sharing thread as the limit of one a day only applies to this Critique thread.

Hi Greg

Basically, you have a good image. I think that you could crop it to decenter, and perhaps lighted your fiances face in PS or another editor.

I hate it, though, when the feet are cut off at the ankles.

You might gain a lot of pointers by looking at my nude images scattered in this section. The comments that the people here made were incredibly good, and hopefully will make me a better photographer.

You have a wonderful model there, and I hope that you both have the time, energy and will to create some really good artistic nudes.
