First Post to Photo Critique

Hello, I uploaded some pictures to the gallery today and now discovered you have this Photo Critique Forum. Wanted to give it a try. So here's a first picture.
I think my pictures tend to be a little graphical.
Am looking forward to get some critique going.

Re: First Post to Photo Critique

I like this picturre Mala, it has some interesting compositional lines leading our eyes in to the one bit that really makes this picture: the figure just about to walk past the house. Without him the picture is static but with that person the image takes on a story. The curves from the left lead to him and the path from the right lead to him so we can't fail to notice him.

Technically the lighting is a bit flat. You have exposed for the dark areas under the bridge but this has led to the sky being completely over-exposed. By the lack of storng shadows we can see that it was a pretty flat grey day anyway so you couldn't do an awful lot about it but it does leave us with a rather large area top right that is somewhat flat.

But I like it for the composition so well done, a good image to choose for your first critique. looking forward to seeing more in the future.

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks Rob,

I did light for the sky, so as not to lose all detail in the bridge. Only this resulted in areas under the bridge becoming too dark. Basically I should have come back at another time of dat for betterlight I guess. Thanks for the comments. Happy you like the picture.

Re: First Post to Photo Critique

Thanks Fiona,
i looked at image again and heve to agree that a more present sky would balance the image better. I used to live near that bridge (it's on the other side of town) but I can still go back on a more cloudy day. Thanks

Re: First Post to Photo Critique

I agree.

Mono would be good, I thought. So I tried, but the sky just drew the eye to it.

So, go back there when the sky is good, and go with a friend so that he/she can walk and create the interest about which Rob wrote.

You are on the right track.
