Re: first post--- winter pic (we know its coming!!!)
Gosh, jumping straight in for a critique ... now that's brave ![]() Firstly, welcome to pixalo ![]() You're right, it isn't terribly sharp, which makes it a little difficult to critique without mentioning that ... so mooooving on ...I like the composition, some nice shapes + patterns in there, + your subjects are well placed within the frame. I'm a little confused by the blue tree trunks Looks like this was intentional, but looks a little odd ... are they p'raps Xmas lights ![]() I like the 3 flares which draw attention to the central tree, as the tree itself is a little flat (tonally) + benefits from the flares drawing attention to that area. I find the trailing headlights on the RHS a little distracting, mainly because there's no car attached to them ![]() The image is rather underexposed + could also use a little more contrast. I also think a bit of sharpening would bring out more detail. There's quite a bit of detail hidden due, not to being blurred or unsharp, but mainly due to the image being so dark; the detail is there - especially in the foreground - but I have to strain to see it. I realise it's a nighttime (twilight) shot, but p'raps a bit of post-processing could brighten it up a bit. Lots of potential with this one Not a bad image for your debut, dude

Re: first post--- winter pic (we know its coming!!!)
Now don't be hasty dude, I didn't say that it doesn't work, it just needs a little more editing IMHO. And anyway mine is only one view, others may love it just the way it is
What really matters is whether or not it works for you. What is it that attracts you to this scene + what were you trying to portray in your image? If you would like some help or suggestions on improving it, you can always offer it up for 'pimping' + let others have a go at editing it ... you'll be surprised how many different 'takes' you'll get on it ![]() |

Re: first post--- winter pic (we know its coming!!!)
hmmm had a good look then went back for another........... i cant put my finger on it, but in a general way it seems to me that the shops are the focal point BUT they are not really interesting enough to be a focal popint..... not sure if im making much sense!
maybe if u had got nearer the tress with the lovely lights going up them? anyway u very brave starting off with a critique and well done for that and a big welcome to pixalo! Fi |

Re: first post--- winter pic (we know its coming!!!)
An entirely valid shot pwrbkdude, though rather too compressed which it didn't need to be. You have compressed this down to only a quarter of what is allowed on here as this is only 47kbs and you can have up to 200kbs so maybe worth considering for a future shot so we get to see it a bit sharper.
I do find the pink and blue trees interesting and as the lighting is all across the middle, perhaps a panorama shot would work with the top and bottom cropped off? Definitely an interesting scene you saw there... just I don't really want to be thinking about winter right now in the height of summer... such as we are getting LOL. Good debut, well done. Cheers, Rob
