Re: First shot at the moon!

one thing I have seen mentioned above, remember the moon is bright and moving, so it is often surprising how fast the shutter speed can be f 5.6 or more at 1/200, 1/320 sec with 200 iso and even try upto -4 stops of exposure compensation with these settings

I echo the thoughts of those that say, sturdy tripod, auto release, mirror pre-lock ... basically anything to stop the slightest camera shake ... your fraction of a mm here will be much more when it gets to the moon!

Another thing is that you do get good and bad days ... that atmosphere stuff, invisible it may be, but it also affects the clarity.

You know those lovely mornings, when the sky is blue and the moon is still around ... try that
Often it is easier without such a contrasting subject.

Then of course with your "crisper shot" a little PP to sharpen and some curves to adjust dark/light areas can help add the punch you need.

btw .. I have tried this loads of time and only have a few reasonable images, so keep trying, I promise, you will get your perfect shot :>)

So true, no brownie points for me.
I will try again when the sky clears, this time making note of the settings, and use the tripod.

Your settings will be in the EXIF information and ought to be visible on the LCD.

I suggest you start a new thread on this subject as this is WeeTrish's thread and this discussion has nothing to do with her picture.
