Taking a shot at a still life of these Jamaican carvings to see how it goes. Please offer your suggestions.

Not keen Robbo, my eyes cant focus on one or the other and theres no 'omph' to it, I think possible it would be better with one carving, face forward

Personally I might work on a very tight crop around the face to make the eyes the focal pont.

My eyes seem to be drawn into the centre and not towards the carvings. I just don't think it works.

I have to agree with Summerleft. This image lacks a good composition.

I would suggest that you try to find some really good still life photographs, books, internet or even PIXALO

When you find one you like try to understand what makes it work.

I appreciate the advice. I will take a look at some better examples for reference. The more I study my shot the more I think my past career putting together product catalogs and sitting in on those shoots has watered down my creativity. I have to say it was a good exercise to go through the process of thinking out the shot and executing it.
