First Try at This

I thought I'd try something with my analog equiptment and used my canon s400 set on "macro" through the front end of my Nikon 35-80mm lens.

I then post processed it in PS using levels and unsharp to give it a bit of a cross processed look.

I can give details if curious.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: First Try at This

I quite like the shot although feel the subject is a little busy (thats personal of course)

The final result gives it an almost Lomo feel

Re: First Try at This

Lomography is a commercial trademark of Lomographische AG, Austria for products and services related to photography. The name is licensed from a former Russian state-run optics company LOMO PLC based in St. Petersburg, and is where lomo was invented.

The original 35 mm LOMO LC-A camera employed an unusual lens which produced large amounts of distortion at the edges of the image (as well as darkening) whilst keeping the center sharp, much as the shot above has. This style and the original cameras that take shots like that without any processing, have built up a massive following throughout the world and the effect is often recreated by avialable plugins, actions or manually in photoshop and other image editing software packages.

Does that help any?

Re: First Try at This

Hi All,

Thank you for your comments and Steve thanks for the LOMO explanation. I have been looking at alot of LOMO and Cross Processed images of late so you hit it right on the head.

I agree it is a busy subject and I shot a variety of desert plants with some plants being less congested with thorns. Would cropping this image make it more appealing or does it come down to just too busy a subject matter?

Thanks again,

Mike

Re: First Try at This

I am not sure that cropping would help a great deal. What you have done has been handled fine, it is no reflection on your work. I think it is just that the picture itself doesn't have much of a focal point in terms of subject matter. It would probably be a good Easter picture as the first thing that came to my mind was the crown of thorns placed upon the Saviour's head when they crucified Him.

I don't think I would change the picture as such, the effects processing has worked ok so maybe on a photo with a more engaging subject it would produce a winner :o)

Cheers,
Rob
