Re: fishing at sunset

Love it

There is absolutely nothing I would change in this, I like everything about it! Normally I'd go through suggestions one by one, so I guess I should similarly go through what I like about this image ...

Comp is very balanced indeed. The horizon is in just the right place, as is the silhouetted bit at the bottom - which is not too much + not too little, but just the right amount of black tone (I'm not keen on silhouettes that have a huge expanse of black).

Exposure could not be better. That highlight in the sky is crucial, and if it had blown then it would've ruined the shot. It is not blown and, to me, it makes the shot, i.e. the icing on the cake.

Colours are just beautiful, that copper sunset is gorgeous. Simple as that. The colours in the water have posterized, but that's ok, it adds to the softness of the calm water.

DoF is great. Obviously there's not a huge amount of fine detail in this shot, but where there is some - e.g. the mountains on the horizon - there is good clear detail.

You've even put thought into the title, it fits perfectly, and I'm one who thinks that titles are important. Your title here is concise + uncomplicated, just like the image itself.

In summary ... if I saw this on display in a shop or gallery ... I'd buy it

Really like the colours here Fi, great shot, not much more to say

Did you get any more closer to the fisherman as an isolated silhouette against that colour?

Re: fishing at sunset

'Tis a good image with a nicely controlled exposure

I suppose if I was being super fussy, it would look better with just a touch more detail in the rocks (literally just a very vague hint). And it'd be interesting to see a shot with Alan on left 1/3rd (i.e. move to the right, if possible) and slightly closer to go for the more classic 1/3rd sky (the reflecton can take being moved slightly landwards). I realise it'd be more classic all around but sunset/rise tend to classic views anyway

I think the boats complement Alan as the wonderful color fulfills the good feeling you get from looking at this picture. Lovely contrast.

Re: fishing at sunset

Criticise this? Are you kidding me? Fi, this is the best photo you've taken in my opinion, an absolute STUNNER!

I'd absolutely love that framed on my wall. It's beautiful and deserves high praise. Very well done.

Cheers,
Rob
