Re: Five Finger.
Not overly struck on this I'm afraid personally.
I can't quite put a finger on why, maybe the scene not apealling, the lighting or the fact that it is B&W. I would suggest that maybe trying to angle the rocks so they don't appear dead middle may improve it, perhaps if they lead the eye into the stormy clouds would make it better ? |

Re: Five Finger.
Not sure what has happened here Simp, the picture appears to have disappeared. I can't even find one in your galery that matches Chris's description. Have you moved it?
Cheers, Rob |

Re: Five Finger.
I don't have a problem with the rocks being in the center of the photo as the top right side of the photo is empty of hills....which the center draws my eyes towards.
I also like how the dark clouds dip down from the sky in the top right of the photo. Follows opposite of the hills to the left. I definitly get the feeling from this photo of "reaching out" towards something. I like it ![]() |

Re: Five Finger.
I don't think this is a bad shot Simpbow, I like the quality of the mono treatment. I am not that bothered about the main focal point being in the centre per se but I do think the dark area to the right is a bit heavy as the central area is also dark which is swamping it a bit. Taking some of that darkness away lets the central area create more impact in my opinion. I have cropped it here for you just to see, I haven't done anything else to it whatsoever.
I thought about whether some of the bottom edge could be removed but I have to say I rather like that area of the rocks. You have kept just enough light there so that we can see plenty of details, the shiny wetness of the rocks and so forth and the lines then lead us into the picture which has greater depth because of it. Not bad at all, don't be so hard on yourself ![]() Cheers, Rob ![]()

Re: Five Finger.
I really like the original actually. I keep going back to it. It's got atmosphere, and is nice and sharp. Would make a nice large print.

Re: Five Finger.
I'd like to see a selective Levels adjustment on the dark rocks lower right to bring out more contrast like in lower left rocks. That touch of light reflecting from the rocks brings them to life and would add to those on the right, and would also balance things tonally.
My kind of image and composition, moody, high contrast and full of suspense/mystery! Nice going! |

Re: Five Finger.
i like this! my one point would be if you are going back to reshoot, try to get lower i cant help but think if you were on more of a level with the rocks it would give a whole different aspect to the shot. Nice one tho!

Re: Five Finger.
I don't like the idea of a lower viewpoint because: a) You would lose some of the reflected water within the foreground rocks. b) The 'space' between the FG rock |
