Re: Flame
The frame is very big, but it seems to work for me on this shot. The flower itself is nicely coloured and composed... I like it, nice work
Image size is fine, for the record the site limit is 1000pix on the longest side and a file size no bigger than 200kb. Some members do use a smaller size so their shot's display better on smaller monitors... though that's up to you |

Re: Flame
It's a lovely shot, I agree with the others that the frame is a bit dominant but it is not overpowering.
My main suggestion here is to think about using a smaller aperture next time. We all like the effect of the wide aperture blurring off the background but there are two reasons why this is not a good specimen for f2.8.... 1. You are cropping right in anyway so you are chopping off any blurred areas. That means you might just as well go for total sharpness throughout. 2. The central area of this flower has the petals projecting straight forwards, gradually opening outwards as the radiate from the centre. Because of that, they actually cover a fair depth and with f2.8 as close as this you probably haven't got more than 1 cm of sharpness to play with. Shutting down to f8 would give you much greater detail, no soft focusing and it makes it much easier to actually focus in the first place. Overall, the picture is a bit soft so a sharper image would improve it in my opinion. However, the bloom still has great impact because of the colour so well done on that.... but go steady on the framing, less is more very often and the picture is the subject matter, not your frame! Let the frame complement but not take over from the subject. Good work. Cheers, Rob

Re: Flame
Sawdust, have you inadvertently removed your photo?
It could be that it has been moved across to the macro group now we have some new groups in the Gallery. Maybe the link needs changing slightly? Cheers, Rob |
