Seeing as others were taking shots of flowers I took this one. Any improvements I can make ? Feel free to edit if you like.

Hi Jim - thanks for sharing. It's a lovely shot which is marred by the petals being overexposed and losing detail. Often blown highlights can't be saved but I could'nt resist having a go. I had a play with levels and curves in adustment layers, a bit of smart sharpen and then ran it through Noiseware and I gave it a slightly tighter crop. With the exception of highlights and noise everything esle is personal taste but I think I've managed to sdave a litlle detail in the petals. HTH



Oh and popped a simple black border round it.

If this was a araw fileyou could always open 2 different exposed shots , 1 for the petals & 1 for centre, as 2 layers & then blend together with a layer mask.

Any wedding photographers out there, remind me how you get the exposure correct for the brides white dress ? Woudl be same here for white petals.

I'm not a wedding 'tog but spot metering would be right.

Not quite so important in group shots where everyones face matters, but of the bride meter for the dress - you can get more detail out of a shadow that a blown highlight.

In the days of wet fingers it was dodging and burning under the enlarger.
