Flower made of icing

My Mum makes cake decorations out of icing and this particular one caught my eye this morning.

Any thoughts on this shot?

Personally I like it
could possibly do with having slightly more depth of field I'd say but that might be just me.
Have to admire your mum's skill with icing though you know its good when folks on the other forum asked if it was a real flower

I went for the shallow DOF because I wanted a sort of dreamy feel to the photograph - If I could have achieved this some other way please share!

I'd have to agree with that, nice work and a very good picture of your mothers work too. Very nice and looks like a wedding shot imo.

Very nice shot of some good clever work,

my only criticism would be the depth of field, the lower part of the decoration is in focus, but the bit i look at first is the middle, and thats out of focus.

I like it too. I'd probably prefer a bit deeper DOF to get more in focus. If you want to do the dreamy thing, have a crack at a diffuse glow:

I'd agree with EosD, the shallow DoF is fine and good but it should be focussed on the center of the flower not the front of it.
