Re: Gerbera On Ice

cheers soupdragon,

Have a go its a lot of fun.... More difficult to encase things in ice than you think!!! Lighting and exposure can be a little tricky too. I have a whole series of them I will post in my gallery next week. Busy trying to think of other interesting objects to encase in ice!!!!!!!

Re: Gerbera On Ice

beautifully done mouldy, I like this a lot. I love the way the ice seems to radiate outwards almost putting a halo effect around the flower. Excellent picture.

Cheers,
Rob

I too like this image. Have you explored various lighting scenarios with this one? I would like to see a backlit version if possible, it would make it really glow.

Very good idea, I havn't seen anyone do this before... Like Les, I think there's scope for more lighting options to try with this being a great and very interesting start, nice one Matt!

Re: Gerbera On Ice

Yes there are a few backlit ones, unfortunately while it does make the ice glow, it tends to silhouette the flower, thus losing all detail. I did try and throw a little light on the flower but this resulted in a lot of glare on the ice.

When I get around to converting the others I will post them so you can all have a look...

Thanks for your comments Les.

Re: Gerbera On Ice

As you posted this one yesterday, that is no problem. The limit is one a day on the Critique thread Mouldy. On the Sharing thread it is unlimited.

Cheers,
Rob

It's one shot per day in the critique section and as many as you want in the photo sharing section, have a read of the "sticky" posts at the top of each section for a more detailed decription...

As it's been 24 hours since your 1st post, go right ahead

It doesn't have to be an either or situation though matt, you could try some diffused light from the front with a backlight to bring up the ice detail. I think this is a fantastic subject you are trying, I have seen various shots using iced flowers in different styles and in each case the commentary has said how much experimentation needed to be done to get the right shots. I think this will be much the same. Keep playing, trying out all sorts of ideas and things and just see what works. You'll probably have a photographic erueka moment when you get some shots that really capture what you've been looking for, despite not knowing quite what you were looking for

I am interested to see more shots as you continue trialling different methods.

Cheers,
Rob
