Goat Herder
Just driving home yesterday and i saw this in a field, so almost getting the car stuck in another field i pulled over and snapped it. I struggled with what to do in post production, in the end i just added a little contrast and that was about it.
Any ideas or suggestions more than welcome! ![]() |

Re: Goat Herder
Yeh, leave it as it is! Apart from the rather dark FG band I love the shot. I think you could crop that first band by half and then it wouldn't be so bottom heavy (Hmmm, why does that remind me of someone?.... oh yes, me!)
Very evocative, almost traditional type shot which captures a lovely mood. It's rather grainy but that works fine here so no problem. Well spotted and good on you for stopping. Ok, so you got yourself a £250 garage bill to get towed out of the field but it was worth it! ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: Goat Herder
Looking at it again, i should have chopped off the bottom a little.
You must be joking, £250 for towing out of a filed. In Spain, you could get towed anywhere in the country have a full service and have an engine overhaul! Fortunately this time it's only a rub some muck off with a rag job (though with an espace there's a lot of car to rub). Cheers for the comment Rob! |

Re: Goat Herder
Yep have to agree with you both, chop of a bit from the bottom and this is an excellent shot.

Re: Goat Herder
Chop chop, crop crop. And with that done, the lines in this shot are great. It gives a very serene feeling. And the blues and browns mix very well.
Good job. |

Re: Goat Herder
Hmmm, well I reckon that the proportions were better in the original and you rather needed that extra layer (aside from shot now being very 50:50)

Re: Goat Herder
Very good, Mark. I like this.
This is a very viable alternative to cropping, and I think, better because it keeps the proportion. It is so cool that we see other views and options....I love it. skip |

Re: Goat Herder
I really like the original (per my comment in your gallery, before I saw this thread). Don't think it needed any cropping at all. Love Mark's enhancement, though

Re: Goat Herder
Cheers again guys! I like posting here because there are so many people willing to offer advice and you get plenty of it and with lots of different alternatives.
I like both alternatives, both cropping and highlighting the foreground (i did also like the original otherwise i wouldn't have posted it). I do also like the idea of square format images (maybe the longing of always wanting a Hasselblad, but only ever getting to borrow/hire them), and i think maybe that this image could work that way, so may try that aswell! |
