Re: Gone away rose
Decent exposure, but I think you might want to (if you can without compromising quality), crop into the centre of the rose, cos all the black business around it makes it seem darker, and distracts away from the subject.

Re: Gone away rose
I totally agree with Jack here, I'd crop to the central portion of this rose. The outside is a problem for two reasons: one is the dark areas but the other is the light flowers/foliage behind the rose head, especially to the top left of the flower. It is blending with the BG too much.
Just a possible option, hope you like it. Cheers, Rob

Re: Gone away rose
Yep that's what I was thinking. I actually had a go, but didn't have time to finesse + upload it cos I'm revising for my French AS mock

Re: Gone away rose
I think a little bump up of exposure might get the subject to pop if you don't want to crop it down...

Re: Gone away rose
Retaking is almost always ideal when it comes to exposure, unless you shoot in RAW, but in this case I think just setting the white point in PS should do the trick. Will have a crack at it later if my day calms down...

Re: Gone away rose
I think he meant something like this:
No cropping, just levels, curves and colour balance adjustments.
