Gun
I wanted to do a study of this old (1944) coastal defence 6in cannon, so I took this today and produced a mono conversion with a light sepia tone. I'm not really sure which is the best solution as both seem to have their good points. Critique gratefully received.
EOS 10D, 17-40L at 20mm, Polariser. ISO100, 1/50th, f/11, aperture priority, RAW. (PS Hope it's ok to have two images - I've sized them down to equal the size of one image) ![]()

I like 'em both. I think I prefer the B&W version though as it seems more apt for that period when colour was comparatively rare.

Looks good in both images
I'd like to see it look a bit more in keeping with the era though How about adding some noise to the B+W image, or converting it to the washed out colour look from the news footage of the time. |

I like the black and white version too and the idea of aging it is good but every time I think of ideas like that something I once heard an old man saying plagues me, "we didn't live our lives in black and white in 19 bloody 40, you see things in black and white you think they're not real but they were, we were"
Doesn't stop me likeing aged sepia prints though

I like the mono. It would be improved with some noise as suggested above, but also by removing the airplane contrail from the background!
Otherwise it's a quality shot, and something I've to do before with an old emplacement near us and failed miserably. |
