Gun room abstract
We were visiting some friends on a farm a few days ago and in the gun room were various pheasants and other birds that had been shot.
I don't want this to descend into a bunfight on the rights and wrongs of shooting but I'd appreciate your comments on the image.D300, 70-200mm VR, ISO800, 1/100th, f/2.8. ![]() |

Re: Gun room abstract
Excellent!
Take a fairly unusual scene and shoot it in an even more unusual way? I think the qualities of bird plumage are well suited to this approach. colour and sharpness are great where they need to be and the different tones of each subsequent bird makes this very pleasing to look at. Would like to see a small aperture version too if you took one.. |

Re: Gun room abstract
I like the effect but would perhaps crop a little from the left hand side.

Re: Gun room abstract
Makes a superb abstract pattern. Would be nice to see a few with different apetures.

Re: Gun room abstract
I agree with SS possibly removing some from the left to give the in focus bird a bit more omph?
Reminds me of the farm before xmas, I went to get some eggs and was stood chatting away next to the shed then looked up to see two dead pheasants! lol |

Re: Gun room abstract
Interesting abstract. Personally, I'd trim most of the RHS as the brighter OOF is a distraction (and the falloff on the LHS is darker, so makes a lovely foil for the brightly lit focussed feathers)

Re: Gun room abstract
I like this a lot Hack, it's got an unusual abstract quality to it. I think I'd like just a little bit of an angle (I know the original birds were hanging vertically but this is an abstract so does not have to reproduce the original) just to give a slightly more dynamic feel to the image but that is a minor point. I think you have used diffeential focusing to great effect here.
Well done, Rob |
