Re: Harbour.
Find the FG colour a little too cyan and the sky could do with a touch more interest but the shot would look good in a brochure with that FG space

Re: Harbour.
I'm have to say the composition doesn't really work for me. I don't find myself with a particular point of focus within the image either. I would maybe crop a touch from the bottom and have a play with water colour a touch.

Re: Harbour.
have to agree with Wayne here, i think there is too much water, resulting in an unbalanced image. The picture itself is "nice" but there is nothing inspirational about it unfortunately.

Re: Harbour.
I find the image to be quite striking actually.....it just goes to show how we all view things differently. I find the towers to be quite imposing & the reflections just make it better. Although at first the foreground looks too much, it does provide the horizon near the 1/3 line, which provides balance. Well done
![]() Of course I would try & convert it to Mono

Re: Harbour.
When i look at this picture i get a strange illusion that the water is ,on the same plane as the front of the tall buildings ,but if i crop to just below the boats i get a sense of depth in the shot and the water becomes correctly orientated.

Re: Harbour.
I like the effect the reflections are giving in making the buildings seem taller and more imposing than they really are. They extend the length because the reflections carry on straight down perfectly. The buildings are tall but not huge, the front one is about 25 storeys high, big but when you think the Empire State Building is about 89 storeys high, it puts them into perspective.
This shot works by having the boats along the mid line providing interest and context. I think because the picture has a lot of detail, you've had to compress quite heavily to get it small enough for the web which has made it a bit flat. Agreed the water does have a little too much colour in it, especially the cyan. Maybe that could be dropped back a little but then would it have the same balance, not sure. Overall, I like this picture, it has impact and it does work well with thos reflections. Ok, it does not sit on the thirds but then that is a guideline, not a law! If it works, it works, and the balance created by the reflections does work for me. Well done Bella, a good picture from a difficult situation. Cheers, Rob

Re: Harbour.
Sorry Simon, doesn't do it for me. I know Dave will love it as he's another mono-mad muppet (sorry, was the only thing I could think of beginning with M to make the alliteration work
) but I think the colour, fairly muted anyway in the original, works well. Each to their own I guess, that's what's so great about all this :o) Cheers, Rob |
